Albert L. Travis

Dr. Albert L. Travis is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Organ at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served on the faculty of the School of Church Music from 1977-2008. Dr. Travis has been Organist of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth since 1978. Currently serving as Organist and Director of the Broadway Series, Dr. Travis plays the Rildia Bee O'Bryan Cliburn Organ. The Casavant organ has 191 ranks, the largest installation by the Canadian organ company. Dr. Travis has degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University, Syracuse University and The University of Michigan. As a recipient of a German Government Grant, he studied with Helmut Walcha in Frankfurt. Other notable teachers include Virginia Reese, Arthur Poister, Marilyn Mason, Catharine Crozier, Gerre Hancock, Paul Manz, Russell Saunders and Peter Planyavsky. A member of ASCAP, Dr. Travis has organ and choral publications with MorningStar Music Publishers, Hope Publishing Co., Augsburg and Alfred. Dr. Travis can be heard on a compact disc recording playing the Jongen Symphonie Concertante and the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony with the Fort Worth Symphony. He also appears on three other CD's of hymn festivals recorded at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Dr. Travis maintains an active schedule as hymn festival leader, improvisation workshop clinician, arranger, and composer.
