"One Small Child" was written in 2008 by Krista Bladel, a high school student in Indiana. It was the winning entry in a contest for young poets that was sponsored by the South Bend Chamber Singers. The final selection was made by the composer Robert A. Harris (b. 1938), who was very taken by its poignant propensity of hope for the world. Scored for SATB divisi and soprano soloist, this is a beautiful and challenging setting.
