Janise White

Janise White began formal private organ studies with Dr. James Hare at age 13 soon after being appointed organist at Elmhurst Seventh-day Adventist Church in Oakland, California where she served for 8 years. During her illustrious career, Professor White served as organist at Providence Baptist Church of San Francisco, Holman United Methodist Church of Los Angeles and Church of Christian Fellowship of Los Angeles under Dr. Albert McNeil frequented by Rosa Parks. While serving at Providence Baptist Church, White recorded with the Mass Choir for the National Baptist Convention and was organist on PBS Broadcasts on Sunday Mornings in San Francisco between 1972-1976. After relocating to Southern California, intermittently from 1997 to 2003, White performed as organist on KJLH Radio for Sunday Mornings live from Second Baptist Church, Holman United Methodist Church & Trinity Baptist Church.

White held tenure as Music Professor at West Los Angeles College in Culver City from 1997 to 2017. She holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (B.M., piano), University of Southern California (M.M., piano), California State University, Hayward, (Choral Credential), and Oberlin Conservatory (Artist Diploma Studies). She studied composition with Professor Robert Linn at the University of Southern California and has produced orchestrations for the London Symphony Orchestra, Inglewood Philharmonic and the Afro-American Chamber Music Society Orchestra. Additionally, White is an adjudicator for local and national competitions and performs as solo artist on organ, harpsichord and piano internationally.
