Bruce Preuninger

b. 1947

Bruce Preuninger completed undergraduate studies at Eastern Washington University with a BA in Music Education. Graduate studies were completed at Gonzaga University where he received a Master of Arts in Administration and Curriculum with emphasis on K-12 Music Curriculum Development. He taught public school instrumental music for 36 years, first in Bellevue, Washington and then in the East Valley School District, Spokane, Washington. Bruce was the first Music Director of the Spokane Jazz Orchestra, the Nation's oldest, continually performing, professional community-supported 17 piece jazz big band. Throughout his career, he has composed and arranged music for vocal and instrumental ensembles ranging from elementary to professional. He has published compositions and arrangements for concert band through Alfred Music.

An ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Mr. Preuninger has led many church music groups, most recently the vocal/instrumental praise team "Hallel" and a 25 member intergenerational Instrumental Praise Ensemble at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church in Spokane. It was writing for this instrumental group that inspired the Instrumental Hymn Enhancements series. Mr. Preuninger is a member of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM), the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the American Federation of Musician (AFM Local 105 Life Member) and the National and Washington State Education Associations (NEA/WEA Retired).
