d 2014

Tamara Albrecht was a music educator, historian, choir director, and organist. She taught music at many levels, from Kindermusik, Orff, and Musikgarten, up through middle school, at Emory University, and several adult choirs and ensembles. She once wrote in a course description that her desire was "to encourage deeper ways of listening to and thinking about music "¦ to develop understanding of the nature of musical content, meaning and significance." She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, playing for church services by age 13. She went on to receive undergraduate degrees in music from Wittenburg University, followed by a master's degree in organ performance from Northwestern University, and finally a doctorate in worship studies from the Webber Institute. In addition to maintaining an active concert schedule throughout her life, she taught at Emory from 1987 until her death in 2014.
