PanSync documents the fortuitous assembly of four like-minded (and in this case, flute-centered) musicians to record an exciting selection of new music at an unlikely moment (July of 2020). After enduring the frustration of remote rehearsals, this extraordinary pandemic panoply united in-person with audio engineer Antonio Oliart at WGBH’s Fraser Performance Studio. Composer-performers/performer-composers Su Lian Tan (flutist in John McDonald’s Dependencies and All Together Now) and McDonald (pianist for all selections) hosted renowned soloists Carol Wincenc (flute; Tan’s Autumn Lute Song and McDonald’s All Together Now) and Cynthia Meyers (piccolo; Tan’s Piccolo Concerto) for an unforgettable session. The resulting music-making of PanSync creates an emboldening collective sound-print of and for the times.
