Leo NestorLeo Nestor

Leo Nestor (b. 1948) is Justine Bayard Ward Professor of Music at The Catholic University of America Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Washington, District of Columbia (http://music.cua.edu/faculty/leo_nestor.cfm), where he is director of the Institute of Sacred Music (http://sacredmusic.cua.edu/),  director of choral activities, and serves on the conducting and composition faculties.

Professor Nestor is artistic director and conductor of the American Repertory Singers (ARS), a professional vocal ensemble specializing in the performance and recording of contemporary literature with eight recordings of critical acclaim to their credit; a founding member of and advisor to the Conference of Roman Catholic Cathedral Musicians (CRCCM); a member of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Secretariat for the Liturgy Advisory Committee on Music; he is an active member of the professional associations. 

From 1984 through 2001, Dr. Nestor was music director at Washington’s Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  Raised and educated in Southern and Northern California, Dr. Nestor holds degrees in composition (California State University, East Bay, 1974) and in choral music (University of Southern California; M.M., 1975; D.M.A., 1980). Parceling his days among the duties of professor, conductor, composer and clinician, he resides on Capitol Hill in the District of Columbia.
